The 37th Annual Gerontology Society Conference—Aging in Montana: Something in Common

The theme for this year’s Gerontology Society conference is “Aging Together in Montana: Something in Common.” It will provide many excellent opportunities to connect and learn. The venue will be at the Best Western Premier Helena Great Northern Hotel, 835 Great Northern Boulevard, Helena, MT.

The 2019 Conference Planning Committee is in full force. Christina Frederick, St Peter’s Behavioral Health’s Community Education Manager, Victoria Tillo, RN at St. Peter’s Health, and Pamela A. Longmire, Long Term Specialist at Mountain-Pacific Quality Health, are the Co-Chairs. Amanda Lias has been contracted to be the Conference Coordinator.

The keynote speaker on April 4th is Amelia Shafer, Executive Director for the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado, and she will provide insight and encouragement. Shafer has worked in leadership roles for the Alzheimer’s Association in Oregon and Colorado for the last 19 years. Her expertise incorporates all aspects of care and support across Colorado as well as health systems and physician advocacy. Ms. Shafer’s session, Alzheimer’s & Dementia: Moving Mountains Together will inform as well as assist you in developing approaches to support others and help you make a difference.

The keynote speaker on April 5th is Danielle Arigoni, Director of Livable Communities, AARP. Arigoni works to support AARP’s 53 state offices, more than 300 localities, and three states enrolled in AARP’s Network of Age-Friendly Communities—creating great places for all people of all ages.

Arigoni is an urban planner and has nearly 20 years of professional experience contributing to sustainable and resilient federal, state, and local policy. Her session, Age Friendly Approach to Helping People and Communities Thrive, will help encourage livable communities and age-friendly communities.

Breakout sessions will cover a variety of health and senior issues, such as financial and legal planning, guardianship, nutrition, music therapy, dementia and age friendly communities.
